For this sketch, I mostly just wanted to press the creepy factor as much as possible, deforming the body and face to make a truly terrifying abomination baby.

Fleshstripper

This is one of my favorite drawings I've ever done. I think it's got so many cool elements to it, that I often look back on it and try to recreate the feeling I had when I drew it as inspiration.

There's still a lot of errors because of it's age, but for some reason I don't look at this one too critically like I do my other old drawings.

souleater01.jpg

This was, once again, one of my theater drawings.

The Souleater seen in the paintings section sort of spawned from this original sketch. There wasn't any objective for this one at the time, but I liked a lot of what I did, and incorporated many of them into the Souleater.

Abomination

I'm a huge horror fan, and "John Carpenter's The Thing" is one of my favorite movies of all time. While I don't think this particular creature comes anywhere near the awesome monsters in that movie, that's basically the idea that I was going for while I drew it.

ariel.jpg

This is a sketch that I made for my "Dark Kingdom" series of paintings. So far, I have only done one painting (The Mickey and Pluto) but I do hope to revisit it someday. The Little Mermaid would be one of my top choices for the next one.

Finback

Finback is a Transformer that was released in 1989 or so. He was part of the "Pretenders" line where a robot was hidden in an organic shell. Most people consider it the final nail in the coffin for the original Generation 1 line of toys and there aren't too many people that talk of these guys fondly.

That said, I had this guy (still do) and I always thought most of the organic shells could look pretty awesome if they were revisted by artists that actually had a strong love of creature design. If you look at the original toy, he definitely looks like the designer was just "doing his job", if you get my meaning.

I tried to make him look a little more menacing in this sketch.

Sebastien and Flounder

These are more sketches for my "Dark Kingdom" project. Obviously, these are Ariel's companions from "The Little Mermaid". They are a little bit too close to their originals, though, so I probably would not use them in the final painting when and if I ever do it.

Nosey

In many of my sketches, I try to push the boundaries a bit and draw deformities of some kind. Here, I started drawing a normal male head and just started going wild from then on out with no ryhme or reason to what I was drawing.

Some of the time I come up with some pretty stupid drawings, but sometimes I conjure up something that I actually think is worth putting on the site.

Randomosaurus

This is one of those creatures that is just completely random. Some of it looks cool and some of it looks completely stupid, but I like that randomness. If I were to redraw this, I would leave a lot out and nail down a focal point, but since I never will redraw it, I'll put it here for everyone to see.

Foreskin Sweater

This is a drawing that I did when I worked at a movie theater in downtown Seattle during college. It got pretty boring between showings, so I would stand at the door-stand all night and draw. Even though some of these sketches are crude because they are so old, I still remember this as one of my most creative creature designing eras. Some of my favorite drawings came out of this time period.

"It looks like he's wearing a foreskin sweater!", is what one of my friends said when I showed it to him for the first time.

Tripod

This is another movie-theater drawing.

A fun fact is all of these original drawings were drawn on "count sheets". Count sheets were what we used to write down what we had left after the sales for the night. Ballpoint pen was used, because that's all I had and there were quite a few drawings I threw away due to the fact that I couldn't erase. These days, I always tell people that drawing in ink helps build your skills, because you don't have the benefit of erasing. This was a turning point in my life, artistically, because of that reason.

Sometimes I feel like I am a little lazy with the ease of photoshop, so whenever I want to try to build my skill, I always draw in pen.

Vagina Monster

I'm a pretty big fan of H.R. Giger, as are many artists. His style was and is so unique that it constantly gets copied, yet never topped.

One of Giger's trademarks is lots of sexual imagery, so one of the things that I guess you could say he influenced me on is using a lot of that in mine as well at times.

I think creatures get creepier the more disturbing parts you add. Twisting and morping the human body is a good way to turn a stomach, and what better way to do that, than by adding a big vagina in the middle of your creature!

Forest Ogre

There wasn't really a goal with this drawing. I just wanted to draw a mean looking ogre with spikes everywhere. Once I finished, I thought it looked kind of like wood branches poking out of him, so now he's a Forest Ogre.

Peel

This is just a random surreal sketch that I did. It really really just an exercise in trying to have some movement and energy throughout a stationary object, but I decided to try and tie it together somehow.

Extraterrestrial

Aliens kind of terrify me. After growing up on movies like Fire in the Sky and Communion, the idea of being abducted and probed by some extraterrestrials is one of my worst nightmares. So this sketch I was just trying to do something a little different with the ET idea.

Various Creatures

These are just some random ideas and doodles. I admit, I usually lose my attention span with a creature after the head. It's not the best habit to have, but we all have our faults.

A couple zombies and the ugliest clown ever...

Is anyone not terrified by zombies and/or clowns? You are a bigger man/woman than I if not...

Billy

A friend of mine told me a story about a friend of his that really struck me as horrifying. The kid, we'll call him "Billy" reached under the bed and found some old leftover cotton candy. While other kids might let it go, he said to himself "Hey...this is still delicious cotton candy" and so he began to lick it off of his fingers. Unfortunately for Billy, it wasn't cotton candy at all...it was several spider egg sacks just about ready to hatch. He realized this as tiny spiders began to crawl out of his mouth, nose, and eyes.

Crown

I was playing around with some skull formations on some demons in this one. Nothing special, just trying to get ideas down for future projects.

Tentacle Demons

Every artist on the planet has probably at some point drawn a tentacle demon. It's just fun to do sometimes. It's not particularly challenging, but it is damn fun.
